La casa alta / The tall house

In un paesino di campagna vicino a Padova, c’è una curiosa casa costruita sopra un argine di un fiume e tutti la conoscono come la “casa alta”.

Io non l’ho mai vista ma mi è stata descritta così bene da chi ci ha abitato che me la sono immaginata: una costruzione verticale che con il suo tetto voleva comunicare con il cielo, tanto era alto e a punta.

Chissà se chi l’ha costruita, ha pensato all’impatto che questo tetto avrebbe avuto nella memoria dei suoi abitanti e soprattutto al fatto più sorprendente, ovvero, chiunque si fosse fermato ad osservarla, avrebbe dovuto alzare lo sguardo… regalando agli dei la possibilità di incrociare gli occhi curiosi di quei sognatori.

In questa casa, i muri sono pieni di memoria e non si dimenticheranno mai di quella famiglia numerosa che ci ha vissuto tanti anni fa e che ne conserva il ricordo… di Giorgio e Gianni che ne combinavano sempre una… di Anna e Gianna che con i loro cuori nobili, alimentavano quegli spazi di amore… Cristina che è arrivata dopo tutti gli altri e che forse non ha vissuto sotto quel tetto magico, è stata proprio il regalo di quegli dei, che per anni avevano ricevuto sguardi e sorrisi inaspettati e gratuiti.

Così un giorno gli dei decisero di ricambiare e gliene avevano restituito uno grande, il sorriso della piccola Cristina.

Beh vi assicuro che mi è venuta voglia di andare a vedere di persona questa casa magica e adesso che vi ho svelato il suo segreto, credo che guardando la punta del tetto, cercherò fra le nuvole il mio sogno e sono quasi certa… che lo troverò!

In a little country village near Padua, there is a curious house built on a river bank and everyone knows it as the “tall house”.

I have never seen it but it was described to me so well by those who lived there that I imagined it: a vertical construction that with its roof wanted to communicate with the sky, it was so high and pointed.

Who knows if whoever built it thought about the impact that this roof would have on the memory of its inhabitants and above all the most surprising fact, whoever had stopped to observe it, should have looked up… giving the gods the possibility to meet the curious eyes of those dreamers.

The walls in this house are full of memory and they’ll never forget the large family lived there many years ago and that keeps the memory… Giorgio’s and Gianni’s who they were always up to something… Anna’s and Gianna’s who with the their noble hearts, nourished those spaces of love… Cristina who came after all the others and who perhaps didn’t live under that magical roof, was precisely the gift of those gods, who for years had received unexpected and free glances and smiles.

So one day the gods decided to reciprocate and they had returned a big one, the little Cristina’s smile.

Well, I assure you that I wanted to go and see this magical house in person and now that I have revealed its secret to you, I believe that looking at the tip of the roof, I’ll search in the clouds for my dream and I’m almost sure… I will find it!
