Ma già nel 1895 venne pubblicata la prima raccolta sul supplemento dominicale del New York World, dallo statunitense Richard Felton Outcault che inventò il personaggio di Yellow Kid.

Dall’America all’Europa, si diffusero rapidamente le serie di Topolino, Popeye, Betty Boop della Walt Disney fino ai super eroi della Marvel e DC Comics.
